Veterinary Handbook Contents 12.1 IntroductionThis chapter provides information on some of the more common non-lesions encountered at necropsy. Non-lesions are changes of no diagnostic significance, and that may be mistakenly interpreted as important. Awareness of non-lesions is important to avoid misinterpretation of findings and subsequent misdiagnosis. Non-lesions may be: Normal physiological changes or structural variation. Agonal - occurring around the time of death when the oxygen deprived nervous system becomes hyperexcitable and there are significant shifts in blood pressure and distribution throughout the body. Post-mortem (after death) changes - the result of autolysis and bacterial decomposition (autolysis = self digestion). BackNext
