Veterinary Handbook Contents 2.1 IntroductionBeing called upon to investigate a disease event can be daunting. There can be enormous pressure to come up with the answers to stop illness and deaths and prevent recurrence. This chapter outlines a conceptual framework and simple steps to follow to provide confidence in addressing the challenges of a disease event. The process should reduce the chance of misdiagnosis or misclassifying possible causes, and increase the chance of identifying the necessary changes the farmer/ feedlot manager/veterinarian must make to stop a disease event or prevent its recurrence, even in the absence of a diagnosis.
